How to Stay Hydrated on a Trip?

Undoubtedly, a travel plan always involves a lot of walking, exploring new places, sun exposure, and exotic cuisines. Travelling can be both exciting and exhausting at the same time. Long hours spent inside a flight don’t really help in keeping up our hydration levels. A strenuous plan can leave you feeling tired and dehydrated. Rather than gulping down carbonated drinks during the heat, it’s highly recommended to have some water. Carrying your own water bottle is always a great idea especially when your trip includes walking and visiting different places. You can then fill up your bottle from easily accessible and reliable water purifiers set up at various tourist places. However, there are more ways in which you can keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. Here are 5 tips to stay hydrated and healthy while traveling:

1. Add Water To Your Food Menu

Water is best when it comes to keeping yourself hydrated. But there are certain foods that can give you the feeling of being full and hydrated. Banana, honeydew, oranges, cantaloupe, and grapefruit are rich sources of potassium and contain lots of water. A full bowl of these fruits is enough to keep you filled and well hydrated. There are some vegetables like tomato, cucumber, celery, and spinach that also have high amounts of water in them. So, snack on these yummy and healthy veggies any time in the day.

2. Drink Coconut Water Frequently

Coconut water is a rich source of potassium and natural electrolytes. While you are walking around the city, make sure to get some coconut water for yourself. It not only helps in keeping your body hydrated but is also a healthier alternative to store-bought drinks. A healthy dose of coconut water will limit your urge to reach for your water bottle while keeping you hydrated.

3. Carry A Reusable Bottle With You

Each time you feel thirsty after extensive walking, reach for your bottle of water. It’s best to carry your own water bottle while you are out. You can refill it at the airport or from your hotel room. If you forget to bring one with you, getting one from the local market can be a great souvenir. You can also use that bottle for your next trip.

4. Say NO To Sugary/Carbonated Drinks

Sugary/caffeinated/carbonated drinks tend to make us more dehydrated. The sugar and artificial sugar in these drinks draw out the stored water from the body, making it harder to process the sugar. Opt for detox water instead of buying bottled drinks from the store. You can make yours with some chia seeds, chopped fruits, and vegetables. Don’t forget to add a spring of mint to your flavored water.

5. Include White Rice In Your Meal

Cooked rice absorbs a lot of water within them. For every 1 cup of rice, you need 2 cups of water to cook them. Cooked white rice helps in replenishing the fluids and the carbohydrates make the body soak it up. However, avoid too salty rich dishes as they can increase water retention in the body. Now, you have a good reason to order your favorite rich dishes at the restaurant.

The next time you are about to plan a trip, keep these tips in mind to have a smooth and enjoyable trip.
